Whether the cardiologist sees you in the office or in the hospital, he or she will review your medical history and perform a physical examination which may include checking your blood pressure, weight, heart, lungs, and blood vessels. Some problems may be diagnosed by your symptoms and the doctor’s findings when you are examined. You may need additional tests such as an ECG, x-ray, or blood test. Other problems will require more specialized testing. Your cardiologist may recommend lifestyle changes or medicine. Each patient’s case is unique.

Dr. Thompson was born in New Hampshire and grew up in southern Maine. She began her medical career working as a firefighter and paramedic in rural communities in Downeast Maine, which is where she fell in love with cardiology. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Maine at Machias and Orono. She then attended medical school at the University of New England.

Dr. Thompson relocated to Florida after medical school where she completed internal medicine residency at Largo Medical Center. She stayed at Largo Medical Center to complete her cardiovascular fellowship. She was both a chief resident and chief fellow.

Outside of work, Dr. Thompson enjoys cycling, watching the Red Sox, and spending time with her two German Shepherds.
